Airbag Defects

A safe airbag is designed to protect an occupant from a crash. It should deploy in a timely manner at the correct force level. Today, most vehicles contain numerous airbags that are designed to protect the occupants from different types of collisions, such as side impacts, while other vehicles also contain airbags that are designed to protect occupants from rollovers.

Defective airbag systems fail during a crash when they:

  • Fail to deploy
  • Fail to deploy at the correct time of crash
  • Deploy unnecessarily
  • Deploy too slowly
  • Deploy with too much force

These problems may result from sensors, switches, control units, and codes that are defectively designed or manufactured.
