Jeff is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is an "AV" rated lawyer in the Martindale-Hubbell legal directory, and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Jeff was recently named a 2007 Texas SuperLawyer.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in business with honors from Baylor University in 1989. Jeff obtained his law degree from the Wake Forest University School of Law in 1992. At Wake Forest, he was a member of the National Order of Barristers, Moot Court Board, and the American Inns of Court. After graduating from law school, Jeff joined the defense firm of Brin & Brin, P.C. in Corpus Christi, Texas. He quickly distinguished himself and was named a partner after four years with the firm. Jeff joined Harris & Watts, P.C. in 1998. His first case resulted in a $7,500,000.00 net recovery for his client. As a partner in this firm he earned other multi-million dollar recoveries for his clients.
Jeff is a member of the, Texas Trial Lawyers (TTLA), Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA), the State Bar of Texas, and the Corpus Christi Bar Association. He is also a member of the Attorneys Information Exchange Group (AIEG). He is licensed to practice law in the state courts of Texas and in the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas.
Jeff has been lead trial counsel in cases involving multi-million dollar recoveries for his clients. He has been featured as a speaker in various civil litigation seminars, and is a published author on civil litigation issues. His ATLA publications include "Ford's dangerous door-latch defects" and "The best-selling defect in America." His cases have been profiled by, or he has been quoted as a legal authority by, numerous major news organizations such as the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today. In 2003 and 2004 he was named to the list of Super Lawyers (Product Liability). Fewer than 5 percent of Texas lawyers were chosen for this honor. Jeff has litigated cases across the country including the states of New York, California, Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Florida.
Jeff and his partner, David Rumley, formed the law firm of Wigington Rumley, LLP in February of 2002. In their first year, Wigington Rumley, LLP obtained a $225,000,000 verdict against Ford Motor Company. This verdict is considered the largest award of actual damages in the history of the state and the largest ever award of compensatory damages against Ford Motor Company.
